Not so millennial crisis.
Reading two books at a time, Mutual Funds and what if you lose your intelligence?
Dear Friends
Hope you all are safe and healthy.
I am writing today about two books that I have been reading and also some random questions I asked on my Instagram profile yesterday.
Let’s start with the questions and some brilliant answers I received on my DM.
What do you do when the fear of losing your intelligence or creativity kicks in?
1. I listen to good music, try to master the skills I have, and read about how people are dealing with the same problem as I'm. I feel at the end creativity is the output of our experiences with different things.
And sometimes when we are desperately wanting to be creative in our work we lose the essence of where it is coming from. Creativity can come in any form and might not follow in the things that we wish to have it in.” - Revati Taware
2. “This might sound a little ‘non-millennial’ of me but I meditate and pray , not specific to the fear. I honestly get the feeling then that I should sit back and take a break for a few days from doing something creative related to art, writing or music because somewhere I feel this fear kicking in at times is natural and necessary too because that gives you the force to take it up a notch higher. Everytime I’ve done this, two to three days later, I can’t explain how, there arrives this strong flow of positivity within to create something with various brilliant ideas in mind too!!” - Bidisha Bhatacharya
3. “I have been pushing myself to try something new. It is called getting out of the comfort zone, I call it agony resulting in existential crisis! Each day, there's something that I do differently like using my non-dominant hand to do the usual Job, not skipping political news rather reading it even if it doesn't stick to my brain, constantly reaffirming myself that my brain is under my control and not otherwise. It's the little things.
Also, as I have been a patient of clinical depression and anxiety is my best friend, studies have shown (and so has my experience and daily activities) that it hampers your cognitive functions. I have seen it affect my vocabulary, writing skills, attention span, memory and attention span. So, I have to put in extra efforts to push myself to do things that I ignored previously or scroll past. Even if it means, not being able to comprehend but it's like rewiring my mind to get comfortable with things that aren't my daily dopamine fix.
I'm still under the creative block to say but as a writer, I'm reading content that I actually like reading. Things that bring joy are on my to-do list. And for intelligence, grabbing knowledge, contemplating on my own and choosing solitude over meaningless gossips.” - Devika Sisodia

About the books I am reading, The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel and Atomic Habits by James Clear
I am reading both the books together, half-hour every day and both the books are so complimenting to each other.
Here are some of the best quotes I have highlighted in my copy till now
“Use the money to gain control over your time, because not having control of your time is such a powerful and universal drag on happiness. The ability to do what you want, when you want, with who you want, for as long as you want to, pays the highest dividend that exists in finance.”
“Spending money to show people how much money you have is the fastest way to have less money.”
“Luck and risk are both the reality that every outcome in life is guided by forces other than individual effort. They are so similar that you can’t believe in one without equally respecting the other. They both happen because the world is too complex to allow 100% of your actions to dictate 100% of your outcomes. They are driven by the same thing: You are one person in a game with seven billion other people and infinite moving parts. The accidental impact of actions outside of your control can be more consequential than the ones you consciously take.”
All big things come from small beginnings. The seed of every habit is a single, tiny decision.
Goals are good for setting a direction, but systems are best for making progress.
If you want better results, then forget about setting goals. Focus on your system instead.
