The internet is our stage.
Pandemic changed the scene, but how did some artists turned this crisis into an opportunity?
Happy friendship day you all, I have always said that Relatively Correct is not just me writing 1000 words every Sunday but all the conversations that happen because of these words and eventually how these conversations lead to a great friendship.
When the lockdown started, the internet was full of stories that how some businesses have gone bankrupt, employee lay-offs, etc, I agree that some businesses will be affected but when artists started to complain about this situation, I was like WTF!
The lockdown probably has been the best thing that might have happened to India’s creative ecosystem, we have started to realise the value of time is more than the value of money, the professional etiquettes are finally here (events never started on time, but webinars start exactly on time, at least the ones that I host), the value-driven approach is here and somebody whose content isn’t damn good, he/she doesn’t get the engagement on the internet. But,
Artists are not just competing with each other now, they are part of the attention economy and now we are in direct competition with Netflix/ Hotstar/ YouTube because all we want apart from money is consumer’s attention.
And as Netflix CEO once said, TIME is our competitor, we want more time in a day so that users spend more time on Netflix.
But I spoke to 10 artists this week for our podcast show about how they are turning this crisis into an opportunity?
This is inspiring, encouraging and motivating. It also says how important taking those small steps to overcome huge challenges are, more importantly, content game is a marathon not a sprint.
What I was reading this week?
Learn how to say NO? I really need to learn this, I have that uncontrollable urge to say yes to people for anything, especially when they ask me for my time. If you know me or this newsletter well, this is not a typical mainstream article which tells you how to say NO, these are email templates that you can directly use in order to say NO to collaborations or people wasting your time.
India and may be the world is placing their bets on Adar Poonawalla and Serum Institute for the COVID-19 vaccine. This bet might go the wrong way.
‘I love America’ Facebook page is run by Ukrainians and is a Pro-Trump propaganda page. If you think once you get a million followers, life will be easy no your actions would be restricted more and the risk of losing your account is higher based on the ‘unusual behaviour’. If you are a page with 1 million FB likes that talks about dogs or animals in general, if you start talking about astronomy continuously, your page can be restricted based on ‘unusual behaviour’. You might wanna look up what happened with Wittyfeed Facebook page in 2018.
“Behind your screen are a thousand engineers using the world’s most powerful computers to try to get you to spend more time on your phone.”, The Social Dilemma
Australian government has said Facebook and Google will pay media companies for their new content.
There we some really cool articles last week so attaching the link to last week’s emailer if you missed it, Are you ready to align your stars?
I was super busy this week and I just could not get the time to watch or listen to some new things, my August month is pretty hectic and you might wanna be prepared for some crazy things that I read or write in the coming weeks. You all probably know that I am being part of this Bolti Bandh cohort for the next six months where I will try my best to do some meaningful conversations with people on the internet, and will share about all this
